Lorn has emerged from the fallout of his Brainfeeder debut ‘Nothing Else’ and Ninja Tune sophomore ‘Ask The Dust’ with a formidable new EP entitled ‘Debris’. Defiantly original, darkly uplifting and utterly uncompromising, Lorn has earned his position as one of electronic music’s most exciting voices championed by Flying Lotus, Gaslamp Killer, Hudson Mohawke, Amon Tobin, Mary Anne Hobbs, Lazer Sword, Illum Sphere, Samiyam and Gonjasufi, amongst many others. ‘Ask The Dust’ was a body of work that Lorn threw himself into entirely. What began as a mission statement became a masterpiece. It was as beautiful, complex and fragile as it was infectious and melodic.‘Debris’ is both a continuation and an antidote to Lorn’s all consuming approach. Never self-indulgent in its melancholy, there is always uplift in Lorn’s music; sunlight breaking through the clouds. Opener ‘Inverted’ combines ocean-deep textures with dislocated rave stabs and punk drums. A drop reminiscent of a time when drops were about genuine drama, and not tooth-jarring, ADD-addled sugar rushes. Title track ‘Debris’ is reminiscent of Trent Reznor’s marrying of industrial aesthetics to beautiful, electronic melody, a song that drags the listener deep into its currents.
